FOUR KEY TIPS for EV CHARGING at HOME:
While charging, always make sure the charging lead is untangled to avoid overheating and damage to the cable.
Try to maintain your EV battery between 25% and 75%.
Remember there are many factors that affect charging speed such as charging rate of the vehicle, battery size, battery fullness, and environmental elements such as temperature.
With lithium-ion batteries, it's best to charge to around 80% rather than to a full charge. In fact, most electric cars let you set a “target charge” of whatever level you desire. Consult your owner’s manual on how to find the optimal level of charge. The 20-80% rule recommends maintaining your EV’s battery charge between 20% and 80% of its total capacity. It's a simple yet effective practice designed to enhance battery life – consider it the green zone for your EV.
NOTE: long-term health of your vehicle's battery pack is improved when kept below 100%.
Will you travel outside Dublin?
In some cases, yes. Although W.E.S. operates mainly in the Dublin / Leinster area, we will and do travel for multiple home station installations and larger business charging stations. Inquire within.
What’s the benefit of installing an EV Charger at home?
Convenience, control, cost savings, efficiency and increased home value. At home vs public station charging also means no waiting in lines, emissions reduction and a longer battery life. Charge while you sleep!
Do all electric cars use the same charger?
Most car chargers are universal, meaning any car can use any charger. In general, electric car chargers offer universal compatibility for most electric vehicles (EVs). The standard plug types used for level 1 and level 2 charging, which are the most commonly found EV chargers, are universally compatible across EV models. Differences appear for EVs equipped with DC fast charging based on the manufacturer and region. Most public charging stations in Ireland use Type 2 plugs which are compatible with most electric vehicles in Europe. However, we always recommend checking your vehicle's charging requirements and available ports at your charging station, keeping in mind that there are better brands that offer more features, better after sale service and are more compatible with solar and smart technology.
How much will it cost to install an EV Charger at home?
EV charging installation prices vary on the type of charging unit purchased and whether or not you avail of the €300 Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) Home Charging Grant. W.E.S. can help with this process.
How long will it take to charge my vehicle?
The time it takes to charge your EV will depend on multiple factors, such as the vehicle, battery size and type of charger. The average time to charge an EV is around 7 hours 42 minutes, using a standard (not rapid) charger.
Should I charge my EV every night?
No. In most cases this isn’t necessary. Charging an electric vehicle every night may shorten the lifespan of your car’s battery pack. Generally speaking, don't charge every day unless you need to.
What’s the best time for EV charging at home?
The best time to charge an EV at home will always be during off-peak hours when energy demand is at its lowest and rates are the cheapest. This can vary by provider, but off-peak hours are typically from 11pm – 8am / morning. You can contact your energy provider to confirm rate / times, utilize smart EV charging features, and check your manual to determine the best times to schedule your charge.
